Description
Album: Masculine Drugs
Label: Suicide Squeeze
Artist: Zach Hill & Holy Smokes

After HeLLa's tour in japan in 2004, Zach Hill geared up to release his first and only book, he decided this book needed a "soundtrack" so he geared up to make his first solo* album, to achive this he created a new band to help him with this project, the Holy Smokes, a super group comprised of Dan Elkan, Rob Crow, Steve Borth, Carson McWhirter, Jonathan Hischke, Ian Hernandez and JR Thompson, with Zach Hill being the conductor to all of it. on the second of august, Suicide Squeeze teased the upcoming release, also stating that it would be co-released with TNI Books, at the end of the month, "Masculine Drugs / Destroying Yourself is too Accessible" was able to be purchased from Suicide Squeeze's and TNI Book's website, the album officially reached stores on September 14 of 2004, recived overall pretty well.

same year, a month later, Zach Hill and the Holy Smokes went live, in October Zach Hill and Holy Smokes played atleast 3 live shows:
04/10/04 Nevada City's Magic Theater
09/10/04 Sacramento Capitol Garage
15/10/04 (during the CMJ Music Marathon) New York at Pianos
these live shows had a different line up which consisted of: Dan Elkan, Spencer Seim, Carson McWhirter and Zach Hill of course, Recordings of these live shows have yet to surface, nobody knows if anyone recorded the shows, may we one day see/hear them live.
(*This is Zach's firs solo album but its listed as being with Holy Smokes, when Holy Smokes was created by Zach for the Album)

As for how this sounds, its one of the most unique things ive heard, its ethereal, ive read the book fully and have somewhat studied it everynow and then, and i can say with confidence that this sound fits the story-tale Zach is trying to tell in the book, its so abstract i love it, when i say its unique i mean it, the sounds here i dont think you will hear anywhere else, if you are tired of hearing mostly the same noises of rock, electronic music and hip hop, listen to this to de-tox, its insanely good, i have had Holy Smoke's second album on my sights for a while, im really considering buying it because if its more of this, im in, but ofc dilute right now is the thign i want the most, so eh, anyways so yeah this album is ofc good and my favorite songs are all of them, this truly is the album of the next-next millenium.
